About the Society
The Yorkshire Optical Society was founded in 1899, making us the second oldest optical body in the UK after only the Spectacle Makers Company. The Society still exists today to provide Continuing Education and Training (CET) for Optometrists, Dispensing Opticians and Contact Lens Opticians.
The Yorkshire Optical Society organises various lectures and events including the prestigious Owen Aves Memorial Lecture and a Foundation Lecture each year. Some events have included trade exhibitions showcasing recent advances in equipment or products available to opticians. The Society also sponsors an annual student prize for Optometry students at the University of Bradford.
